We arrived at 8:30 am on Friday the 14th of July and were met by the senior zone leaders, the Proctors and Tony's "boss" (loosely used) Jeff and Janet Nelson......Jeff is a paid employee of the church and is the lead attorney her at the area office for the General Counsel. They immediately recognized us because of our badges (or perhaps we looked like deer in the headlights!) They took our luggage and took us right to our apartment where we dropped off our luggage and walked over to the office next door. We were introduced to everyone......our heads were spinning! I had no idea there were so many people! This office building is the main headquarters of the church for all of Europe...... There are 22 missionary volunteers that work here! From attorney's, IT, humanitarian, publications, PR, and so many other departments, I just can't remember them all! After we met everyone at the office we had lunch at the Thomas' apartment....they are our next door neighbors and so nice to have us over. They work with the church oral history projects. Then we took a short nap and ate dinner with Jill and Don Roberts, he works with the OGC (office of General Counsel). Went to bed at 8:00......it was everyone's job to keep us awake all day to help with jet lag.....we were exhausted by 8:00! Here are some pictures of our apartment...they tell us this is one of the nicer ones! We are very comfortable!
Our kitchen is a galley kitchen and that is not a dishwasher but a washing machine and a dryer in one!
This is our living room
The view from the living room.....Germany is beautiful
Looking straight down from the living room is the office building and in front of that building is the church. Same chapel that Dieder F. Uchtdorf went to as a young man.
We even have a view from our small kitchen
Bathroom, very European
Bedroom
The Chappell's dropped us off at the airport in SLC.....with A LOT of luggage!
Tony getting use to his new office cell phone
Jill Robert's and her husband Don took us to the Reve, it's a nice grocery market close to our apartment. They showed us how to shop. You will never see grocery carts in the parking lots because you pay for them and have to return them to get your coin back! Clever! Jill, has been my go to person for everything and she has planned out our entire first week here to make sure we are comfortable....she is wonderful! She works for the refugee camps and also for the area offices as a secretary.
All very charming! Cozy little apartment..... you better like each other!!:))))
