Medieval Reenactment is a form of historical reenactment that focuses on the re-enacting European History from the fall of Rome to about the end of the 15th Century. These people who participate in the festivals each year, actually live and re-enact what daily life would have been like in medieval times.....Fun to watch!
This couple, the Robert's (Jill and Don), have been like our mentors since we arrived in Frankfurt. They took us by train to a medieval festival.....we had a great time!
People really get into their costuming for the festival....this was the town beggar .... his costume was great and I was told that he would even go up to people and ask for their money or clothes or food!
This guy was quite funny! He saw me trying to take a picture (because I thought his instrument was cool) and he came right up to me and posed for the photo. All these germans were really into the festival and having so much fun!
Some more of the costumes
This was the blacksmiths tent with an authentic bellows
How uncomfortable this must be! It weighs 80 lbs!
There was a parade which is customary to show off their costumes....the tents in the background is where the families who come to the festival and dress up ....sleep and eat during the weekend of the festival.
More costumes. You can actually buy the costumes at the festival if you want to dress up
Even children are involved
Don and Tony enjoying the parade
My grandchildren would love this merry go round.....and it really worked! Man powered!
You can see all the tents where families stay during the festival
Tony and his new friend
These ladies are just visiting....you can see the large oak table and chairs under the tent for eating as a family group. It could not have been easy to set these tents and belongings up for just a weekend, they had so much stuff! The tents with actual beds and sheep's skins for blankets and feathered pillows were also amazing.
Off in the distance ....during the festival, I just had to take this picture of this cute house.
I bought this leather bracelet from this cute woman at the festival, for Kerianne...she was thrilled that I asked to take her photo.....She hand makes ALL the leather in her booth....belts, purses, bracelets........impressive!
These three were really quite talented and funny with their music
